History Of Buy Right Purchasing Group
James Novak, a food service purchasing director for a private college, a small restaurant and bar owner, and a purchasing manager for a Madison area restaurant chain, founded Buy Right Purchasing Group in 1994. He saw the need for a voice among independent owners. They couldn't compete against the huge marketing budgets that national chains had, but he knew there was a way to lower the cost of food, supplies and services to help level the playing field.
Jim believed combining the purchases of independent restaurants into an organized
group would help close the competitive gap. He started his group with about four local restaurants, and by 2003, had increased membership to over 30 owners across Southern Wisconsin. Although he "retired" in 2003, Jim continues to use his vast experiences in negotiation and purchasing to consult for Buy Right.
